His “Life” single made waves on streaming platforms. He appeared on NPR’s well-known Tiny Desk series. He dropped a verse on “Everybody’s Something” and “Angels,” but his largest successes have come on his own and caught the attention of hip-hop heads to the degree where it’s probably overdue to call him underrated. He’s known for his collaborations with Chance the Rapper as a fellow Chicago native. Saba released a new album last week with his Pivot Gang collective. JID isn’t coming to Syracuse - he did in the fall to rave reviews - but Saba will take the stage at Walnut Park and perform songs from his first two critically acclaimed albums: Bucket List Project and Care For Me. This year, it features one of the most vulnerable, jazz-inspired, creative rising hip-hop artists before he embarks on tour with another soaring prospect. It drops a few days after the Block Party announcement. Normally the MayFest lineup doesn’t generate much buzz. While much of the student body soured at the announcement of Khalid and Rico Nasty as headliners for Block Party 2019 - University Union quietly secured a gem for earlier in the day. ![]()
